MINE WENDEL
Parc Explor Wendel

57540 PETITE ROSSELLE
The Wendel Mine is the only French mining site that invites visitors to learn all about the various coal-mining techniques in use right up to the closure of the last French colliery in 2004. Step into the cage as so many miners did in the past and you’ll be on your way down with the “gueules noires" (black faces) of the 21st century, to explore their highly unusual workplace. Saint Barbara awaits you and invites you to walk through the mine’s various tunnels. There you will find colossal machines (excavators, roadheaders, coal-cutters, etc) and other equipment in situ. A guide will accompany you throughout the tour which culminates with the screening of a film depicting a working day in the life of a coal-face miner.
The museum is open all year round for groups who book in advance.
